NOW WHAT is a new film night giving shorts a second shot.
After screening at film festivals, short films often fall by the wayside as artists move on to their
next projects. Shorts can be reduced to a calling card which, when they’ve done their job, run
the risk of slipping through the cracks.
We believe that short films deserve fresh eyes, and as society rapidly changes can have more
to say than first thought. NOW WHAT is searching for shorts that have completed their festival runs or, whether for
financial reasons or otherwise haven’t had one. We want to breathe new life into films that still
have a lot to say. We aim to build a network of emerging and aspiring filmmakers and lovers through screenings,
socials and Q&A’s, giving you a chance to see innovative, thought-provoking films you might
have missed the first time around. Our first venue is the Catford Mews, a community-focused cinema in Lewisham which opened in
September 2019, and we’re on the lookout for shorts from the local area and beyond that can
engage, inspire and excite.
. Short films (under 20 minutes) of any genre that have completed their festival run or for
whatever reason, haven’t had one.
. Short films that explore the broad theme of identity.
. We’re especially interested in submissions from Lewisham and South London locals.
